- ArthritisPsoriasis can be found on any part of the body, but the most common areas affected by psoriasis are the elbows, knees, lower back, face, palms, soles of feet and scalp. Skin around affected joints commonly cracks. Some people experience joint inflammation with the same symptoms as arthritis, also known as psoriatic arthritis. People of all ages are affected by this disease, however it primarily affects adults. Males and females are found to be equally affected by psoriasis. Researchers have found a familial genetic link to psoriasis, so there is usually a family history with this disease.
- CryotherapyCryotherapy uses liquid nitrogen to freeze keloid scars. Although this will flatten the scars, they may also become darkened.
- Medical Weight LossIdeal candidates for brachioplasty should be in good overall health and be close to their desired weight. They should have loose skin or fat deposits on the upper arm that have not been improved through diet and exercise programs. Patients who have recently lost a significant amount of weight may find that excess skin remains on their arms. Such individuals can greatly benefit from an arm lift, as it is difficult to naturally eliminate excess hanging skin after weight loss. Patients should also have realistic expectations about the outcome of their procedure. After meeting with you, our plastic surgeon can help you determine if you are a good candidate for an arm lift procedure.

- Labor and DeliveryPatients considering breast augmentation must be in good overall health. Their breasts may have decreased in size and/or firmness following childbirth or weight loss, are noticeably asymmetrical, or have always been too small. Patients considering breast augmentation surgery are usually unhappy with the small size of their breasts and feel self-conscious when wearing form-fitting tops or swimwear.
- Prostate CancerCellulite is a term that refers to a natural form of fat storage most commonly found in post-pubescent females. The change in skin topography is seen in the formation of skin dimples and skin nodules, which occurs mainly in the lower limbs, abdomen, and the pelvic region of the female body. This can result in skin that is dimpled or resembles an orange peel or cottage cheese. While most cases of cellulite occur in post-pubescent females, cellulite can occasionally affect men as well. It is seen most often in men who suffer from Klinefelter’s Syndrome or have undergone estrogen therapy to treat prostate cancer.

- MRISaline breast implants are filled with sterilized salt water, and can be filled with various amounts of saline to fine-tune the firmness, shape and feel of the breast. If the implant ever leaks, the saline liquid will be absorbed by the body and expelled naturally. Silicone breast implants are filled with a silicone gel that better mimics the feel and movement of natural breast tissue. These implants are pre-made and are larger than a saline implant, requiring a larger incision. If a silicone breast implant leaks, the gel may leak into the implant cavity; since this may not be noticeable, a yearly MRI is recommended to assess the condition and integrity of the implant. Our plastic surgeon will work with you to determine which type of breast implant is best for you.

- ChemotherapyPeople with weakened immune systems due to excessive unprotected sun exposure, chemotherapy, or illnesses such as HIV/AIDS are more likely to develop squamous cell carcinoma.
- IontophoresisIontophoresis is another treatment option for hyperhidrosis that involves delivery an electrical current to the area of skin affected by hyperhidrosis. Unfortunately, iontophoresis is not suitable for all areas of the body and cannot be performed on the armpits.
- Radiation TherapyVisible facial veins include: spider veins, telangiectasias, spider angiomas, and benign vascular lesions. Facial veins are dilated blood vessels. These veins are often located on the forehead, nose, cheeks, eyelids, neck, and upper chest. Visible facial veins are associated with sun exposure, aging, liver disease, steroid use, and radiation therapy. They may be prevented by the use of sunscreen. The best treatment for small visible veins is laser treatment. Lasers focus high energy light to be absorbed by the blood within the affected area. This light destroys the blood vessel, gradually restoring the skin’s natural appearance. Topical anesthesia or ice may be applied to vessel prior to laser treatment for maximum comfort. Lasers are safe, producing gradual results. Large veins may require multiple treatments for improvement, not full repair. Small veins require a single treatment for repair. Laser treatment has very few side effects. Temporary discoloration of the affected skin may result from treatments. This discoloration can last anywhere from 5-14 days depending on the location, size, and type of vein being treated. Blistering, crusting, or redness of the skin may also occur but clear within a few days. The use of sunscreen on the treated area is recommended for optimum results.

- Ingrown ToenailsAn ingrown toenail occurs when the side of a toenail grows into the soft tissue of that toe. This condition usually affects the big toe, although it can occur on any toe. Ingrown toenails may occur as a result of wearing cramped shoes, trauma to the feet, hereditary factors, or improperly trimming toenails. Symptoms of an ingrown toenail may include redness around the affected toenail, infection of the tissue surrounding the toenail, and swelling of the affected toe. Ingrown toenails that are left untreated may spread infection to the surrounding bone.

- LiposuctionNeck liposuction is beneficial for anyone whose neck is marred by the appearance of excess fat. After an incision is made beneath the chin, a cannula is inserted and excess fat is broken up and removed. Sutures are used to close the incision.
- Breast AugmentationSeveral incision options exist for breast augmentation surgery; these options include the periareolar incision, the inframammary incision, and the transaxillary incision.
- Breast ReductionAlso known as mastopexy, a breast lift raises and firms sagging breasts by removing excess skin and tightening surrounding tissues, which gives breasts a more attractive shape. The breasts may sag due to age, fluctuations in weight, pregnancy, breastfeeding, gravity, genetics or other factors. Occasionally the areolas may expand over time; a breast lift may also correct this, reducing the areolas to a more attractive size. A breast lift will not change the size or fullness of the breasts; to address these concerns, a breast lift may be combined with either breast augmentation or breast reduction.
- Breast LiftSeveral approaches to breast lift currently exist; these include a full breast lift and a Benelli breast lift. Read below to learn more.

- Body ContouringThe Thermi RF can treat many different areas. Patients seeking toxin-free glabella relaxation can benefit from Thermi RF. It can provide sub-dermal skin tightening on the body and treat cellulite. Additional uses for the Thermi RF include treating axillary hyperhidrosis, smoothing and tightening the skin, and correcting vaginal laxity. Its dual capabilities for fat removal and skin tightening offer a full body contouring without requiring additional treatment modalities.
- Laser ResurfacingRecovery time depends on the laser used and varies for every patient. For CO2 laser resurfacing the general recovery time is up to two weeks while recovery from a procedure with the Erbium laser is generally one full week. It’s possible that the skin may remain red or pink for up to several months after laser skin resurfacing. After laser skin resurfacing, the skin becomes very sensitive to sunlight and it is imperative that patients use a high quality sunscreen liberally and daily. While some patients may see immediate results, others may experience slower and gradual results, seeing their skin slowly rejuvenate and improve for up to a year.
- Cosmetic SurgeryThere’s no need to resign oneself to facial lines, wrinkles, growths or scars. With today’s laser technology, people who want more from their physical appearance can turn back the clock to a time when their skin was smoother, more youthful, and vibrant. Our doctors at the Center for Laser & Cosmetic Surgery are experts in the field and are continuously training with new technology to bring our patients the most advanced and effective treatments. With offices located throughout New York and New Jersey, our doctors have performed thousands of laser skin resurfacing procedures. We have also lectured nationally on lasers and related topics, published extensively in medical literature, and have served as laser consultants for newspapers, magazines, and radio and television programs. Our array of modern laser equipment allows us to gently remove the top layers of skin, effectively reorganizing the skin’s structure, and reducing the visible signs of sun damage, scarring and time.
- DermabrasionAs mentioned above, the ink in a tattoo absorbs light from a laser and fragments. Dark colors, such as black and dark blue are most easily removed as they absorb the most light, similar to wearing black clothing on a hot summer day. Light colored tattoo ink such as yellow and violet may be more difficult to remove. In addition, the removal of tattoos by a professional artist that uses higher quality ink, may call for eight to twelve treatments or more, while a tattoo created by an amateur artist may be removed in less treatments.Alternative methods of tattoo removal include excision (cutting out the tattoo)or chemical abrasion or dermabrasion.
- Forehead Lift
- Skin CancerAge spots are formed by a concentrated increase in pigment in an area of the skin. As their name suggests, age spots are more common on those of us more advanced in years. They can occur on people of any age though, including children. Age spots are more prevalent on people who have spent a lot of time in the sun and are mainly caused by exposure to UV rays. This exposure can also come from prolonged use of tanning beds, which have been tied to an increased risk of skin cancer. Although age spots are harmless, they are sometimes found along with signs of cancer or pre-cancer since both can be the result of spending a lot of time in the sun.

- EczemaEczema is a general term used to describe skin inflammation or “dermatitis.” Eczema is not contagious, but is believed to have a genetic component. It is therefore common for multiple members of the same family to have the condition. Research indicates that those with a family history of eczema or a family history of other allergic conditions, such as asthma or hay fever are more likely to present eczema. While eczema can affect people of any age, it is most common in infants. About 85% of people with eczema experienced its onset before the age of 5. Research shows that eczema is more common in females than males and effects people of all races.
- LesionsAny bump or open sore in areas of chronic inflammatory skin lesions indicates the possibility of squamous cell carcinoma, and a doctor should be consulted immediately if this is the case. Usually, the skin in these areas reveals telltale signs of sun damage, such as wrinkling, changes in pigmentation and loss of elasticity. That is why tumors appear most frequently on sun-exposed parts of the body.
- Chemical PeelsA chemical peel involves applying a layer of chemicals on the skin, which are then peeled off to remove the top layer of damaged skin cells. The result is a fresh complexion with renewed skin cells and diminished skin imperfections

- Skin CareAcne has held you back long enough, now it’s time to take charge of your life and your skin. We’re excited to offer Allergan’s Aczone Dapsone Gel, 7.5% for individuals aged 12 and older looking forward to a clearer future. The gel is meant to help you maintain a consistent skin care regimen and can be prescribed by your dermatologist after a thorough assessment.
- MicrodermabrasionOther products that our dermatologists may prescribe include tretinoin and corticosteroids which similarly act to lighten skin. Other topical medicines that are sometimes prescribed are azelaic acid and kojic acid that assist in lightening Melasma. If the Melasma does not respond to these medications, our dermatologists may recommend a procedure such as a chemical peel, microdermabrasion, and dermabrasion. The Fraxel laser is an alternative tool that is now used to combat Melasma. The Fraxel laser has the ability to penetrate deep into the skin and eliminate the skin cells that are producing too much pigment, thus, inhibiting the Melasma. The benefit of the Fraxel laser is that the skin’s outer layers are protected while the deeper layer of skin (dermis) with the pigment producing cells is treated. Patients that elect to have Fraxel laser therapy to treat their Melasma come to our offices periodically until the treatment regimen is complete. As mentioned above, sun avoidance is a must, before, during, and after treatment and the use of a high grade UVA and UVB sun block is of most importance.

- Ingrown ToenailsIngrown toenails can usually be treated by regularly soaking the foot in warm water and applying antibiotic creams. More severe cases may require lifting the nail from the skin or removing part or all of the affected nail and its surrounding tissue. The exact course of treatment will vary based on each patent’s individual condition and medical history.
- AllergiesThere are no specific tests that are used to diagnose eczema; however, our skin doctor may recommend that you undergo allergy testing in order to identify possible irritants or triggers. There is also no cure for eczema. Rather, the condition is one that is managed through a variety of medications, moisturizing routines, and/or lifestyle changes. Our dermatologists may observe how you respond to recommended treatments before giving a final diagnosis of eczema, as response or lack of response to certain medications may provide the doctor with a better idea of the condition.
