Established in 1937, First Electric Cooperative is a nonprofit business that provides a range of electrical equipment and related services. It offers fluorescent and security lights, heat pumps, energy calculators and water heaters. The cooperative also provides a variety of load management services. First Electric Cooperative additionally conducts safety programs for schools, fire stations and businesses. It operates and maintains more than 9,000 miles of power lines and over 40 substations. The cooperative has a work force of nearly 230 employees. First Electric Cooperative uses various engineering and business information technologies. It has operations in approximately 15 counties throughout central and southeastern Arkansas.
