- Parasites Treatment and ControlMost horses only need to be dewormed once or twice a year. Before deworming in the spring, we recommend having a fecal test done. This procedure allows us to measure the number of worm eggs a horse is shedding in its feces.

For kittens, we will also perform a blood test to check for feline leukemia and feline immunodeficiency virus.
- Urinary Tract Infection TreatmentOur Sturgis vets often see geriatric cats and dogs with urinary tract conditions and incontinence issues. Elderly pets can be prone to accidents as the muscles controlling the bladder weaken, but it's important to note that incontinence could be a sign of a bigger health issue such as a urinary tract infection or dementia.
- Arthritis TreatmentWhile osteoarthritis is typically a condition we think of in older dogs, this painful condition can also affect your senior cat's joints.
- Hip Dysplasia TreatmentThe lameness exam will begin by gathering your horse’s medical and farrier history as well as their work/exercise routine through a series of questions, conversations, and previous medical records.
- Diabetes Treatment
- Thyroid Disease TreatmentIn senior cats, liver disease is common and may be the result of high blood pressure or hyperthyroidism. Symptoms of liver disease in cats include loss of appetite, jaundice, drooling, vomiting, diarrhea, and increased thirst.

- Heart Disease TreatmentWe will take blood and urine analyses to ensure it's safe for your pet to undergo anesthesia. Additional diagnostics, such as chest radiographs or an ECG may also be conducted.
- Kidney Disease TreatmentAs pets age, their kidneys tend to lose their function. In some cases, kidney disease can be caused by medications used to treat other common conditions seen in geriatric pets.
- Periodontal Disease TreatmentThe final step is to apply a dental sealant to prevent plaque from attaching to the enamel. If advanced periodontal disease is found, the veterinarian will develop a treatment plan and discuss it with you.
- Cancer TreatmentMedical treatments such as chemotherapy can feel very uncomfortable for your pet. They will often be combined with acupuncture in an effort to relieve some discomfort, helping your cat or dog to fight their illness.
