Montessori allows children to absorb information at an early age, children are then prepared to become self sufficient citizens in society. The Montessori Philosophy is unlike traditional school, by providing an independent learning environment and allowing all children to progress at their own pace. In all areas there is an array of materials at different skills levels, to meet the specific needs of every child. Practical Life- This area helps to bridge the transition between home and school, by allowing children to complete tasks that they see their parents do at home. Practical Life also works on teaching fine motor, hand- eye coordination, self help skills and caring for their environment. Language- In this area we focus on teaching phonetic sounds and pre-writing skills to prepare children for reading and writing. Math- By the use of beginning math materials, children are introduced to the concepts of identifying numerals, counting quantities and learning place value. Once these skills are mastered children are able to further their math skills towards addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. Sensorial- At the early childhood age sensory input is crucial. In this area children are able to explore all of their senses, while also learning how to build concentration and focus. Cultural- In our cultural areas of the classroom children are exposed to Botany, Zoology, Geography, and Science concepts. While being introduced to specific lessons, children have the opportunity to pair real life exposure with those lessons. This then internalize what they have learned with materials.
