Success for any type of business is related, in a very large part, to location! The ICS Resale Shop started out in a small building in downtown Statesville in 2014. It allowed a 6-day per week outreach. We met wonderful people and held wonderful events while in this location. We were there for one year until deciding to move due to increased rent and utility cots for the building. Due to the age of the building, utilities were costing upwards of $1,000 per month. This didn’t include the rent. We decided to move into the I-40 Flea & Farmer’s Market in February of 2015 to offer a simplified, smaller version of our shop. The flea market is comprised of about 50 different vendors under one roof. The Flea Market is only open on Saturdays and Sundays. There were several issues with that location that caused us to announce our relocation. 2 days per week barely cut it for a full-time outreach. Because of space restrictions, we were having to turn away valuable donations that came into our shop. That also had an effect on the number of people we were able to help. Now that we are in our new location, we are confident it will boost our community presence drastically. It has allowed us to go back to creating our own schedule and hours. It’s going to allow us a better location with plenty of room for overflow and donations. We are now in a freestanding building of our own, and not hidden within another building.
