- Headaches
- SinusitisSinusitis is an inflammation of the mucus membranes lining the sinus cavities. Acute sinusitis is a short-term condition that usually responds well to antibiotics and decongestants; chronic sinusitis is characterized by multiple or continuous infections. Either medication or surgery is a possible treatment.
- Medical Weight LossSymptoms of hyperthyroidism would suggest a heightened metabolism, or the rate at which the body performs its essential functions. Symptoms may include a fast or irregular heartbeat, shaky hands, increased perspiration, more frequent bowl movements, weight loss, high blood pressure, and an irregular menstrual cycle.
- Smoking CessationSome attribute the steady increases in the incidence of mouth cancer to an increase in the use of “smokeless” tobacco products like chew, or plug tobacco/snuff. While smoking cessation and public safety health awareness programs in recent years have fueled a decline in overall cigarette smoking, many former smokers merely switched to smokeless products believing they are less harmful. But switching only shifts the cancer risk from the lungs to the mouth, where 90% of all cancers occur as a result of tobacco use.
- Ear InfectionsOssicular chain discontinuity (also called ossicular chain dislocation) is an abnormal separation of the middle ear bones. Middle ear infections, injury or malformation of these bones can cause this condition. This condition leads to conductive hearing loss as sound cannot be transmitted properly.
- Pregnancy
- Kidney StonesAs the parathyroid glands are key to the proper regulation of calcium in the body, parathyroid disease symptoms are often noticeable in the skin, bones, and hair, such as thinning hair, osteoporosis, and frequent bone fractures. Other symptoms may include kidney stones, high blood pressure, and reflux. It is common for people to have abdominal pain, bone and joint pain, and even anxiety or other psychiatric problems.
- Cervical CancerWhile most people understand that excessive exposure to the sun can cause skin cancer, fewer realize that it can cause lip cancer as well. Further, poor diet and the human papillomavirus – more commonly known as a cause of cervical cancer – have been linked to mouth and throat cancers.
- EndoscopyTo obtain the best treatment option, the physician needs to properly assess the patient’s history and symptoms and then progress through a structured physical examination often including nasal endoscopy, bacterial cultures and CT Scanning.
- Cancer CareThroughout your cancer care, The New York Otolaryngology Group puts your treatment preferences and comfort above all else. Once a treatment plan is developed, our patients are encouraged to seek out alternative opinions. Many of our treated patients volunteer to speak to other patients just beginning the same or similar treatment courses to give a first-hand account of what to expect from the patient’s perspective.
- Multiple Sclerosis€¢ Pregnancy • Multiple sclerosis • Heart problems (i.e., congenital heart disease) • Tumors • Inflammatory bowel disease (i.e., ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease) • Inflammation and malformations of the blood vessels • Diseases of the liver • Stroke • Abnormalities of the pancreas • Joint abnormalities
- Depression
- ThyroidThe NY Otolaryngology Group is one of the few private ENT practices in the New York region to have fellowship-trained surgeons on staff who specialize in head and neck surgery, as well as a micro-vascular reconstructive surgeon, to care for patients with cancers of the upper aerodigestive tract, salivary glands, and sinonasal cavities; endocrine conditions (including thyroid and parathyroid disease); and related lesions of the head and neck. At the Head and Neck Surgery Center we specialize in the diagnosis and treatment of thyroid disorders and other head and neck cancers in two locations in NYC.
- Thyroid CancerThe most common form is Papillary Thyroid Cancer, and it accounts for 60-70 percent of all cases, affecting more women than men. Follicular Thyroid Cancer is also common, accounting for 15 percent to 20 percent. This form also affects women more than men.
- UltrasoundIn addition to a complete medical history and medical examination, procedures for a thyroid cancer diagnosis may include a blood test, ultrasound, and thyroid scan or the removal of cells from the tumor for examination under a microscope, also called a biopsy.
- MRIMRI – MRI stands for magnetic resonance imaging, and it is a computerized imaging technique that uses magnetic and radio waves rather than ionizing radiation (x-rays) to produce detailed images of the inside of your body. Detailed pictures of bones, tissues, organs, and internal body structures can be seen, allowing doctors to determine the presence of disease. MRI's can be used when you are pregnant to monitor the baby and are also used to help diagnose and monitor treatment for a variety of conditions. This kind of medical test is noninvasive and helps physicians diagnose all kinds of medical conditions. The produced digital images are able to be viewed on a computer monitor, where they then can be transmitted electronically, uploaded to a cloud server, burned to a CD, saved to a jump drive, or even printed.
- RadiologyAs recognized specialists in the diagnosis and treatment of sinus disorders in NYC, it is not surprising that many patients initially come to the New York Sinus Center for a second opinion on the radiology-driven sinus disorder diagnosis and recommendation. Fortunately for most of these patients, we often conclude that their long-term sinus health is best served by a non-surgical approach. However, we also have found that there are many instances where surgery was not recommended but clearly is the advisable solution for the patient in question. CT scans do not always reveal the true condition of individuals with recurrent infection and more severe sinus problems as their sinus complaints can be episodic in nature. It’s not uncommon for someone with unhealthy sinuses to have a CT scan taken at a time that will suggest otherwise.
- X-Rays
- Nuclear MedicineThe preferred method of testing for a hyperparathyroid and locating the over-active gland is a nuclear medicine isotope study known as the Sestamibi Scan. First developed in the early 1990s, this method of testing has proven to be the most accurate method of Parathyroid Disease diagnosis.
- Computed TomographyFor instance, if an individual with generally healthy sinuses has a CT scan done during a cold or an allergy attack, the scan will show clogged and swollen sinuses and will be described as “diseased” by the radiologist. Several weeks after recovery, a followup scan would likely appear normal. If the original scan alone is used as the basis for deciding on treatment options, however, chances are that an unnecessary surgery will likely be recommended. Proper timing of CT scan following aggressive therapy is crucial.
- ChemotherapyThe most common form of mouth and throat cancer is known as squamous cell carcinoma. In the head and neck, squamous cell cancer develops from the lining of the tissue, called the mucosa. In later stages of the disease, these tumors become invasive and can involve not only the soft tissues but also the jaw and other bones in this region. It is not uncommon for these cancers to spread regionally to the lymph nodes of the neck and sometimes even distantly to the lungs, bones, and other organs. Surgical procedures, radiation therapy, and chemotherapy are the most common treatment approaches to head and neck cancers, which may be curable. They may be used independently or in combination, whatever is most appropriate given the individual diagnosis.
- Radiation TherapyThis varies on the extent and kind of surgery. In some cases this can be as short as days but in others it may take weeks, especially if radiation therapy is needed post-surgery. Dr. Krevitt will provide a normal range of expected recovery based on the amount of anticipated surgery and extent of disease.
- Minimally Invasive SurgeryModern, minimally invasive surgery should remove only severely damaged tissue enlarging the natural outflow tracts to the sinuses, leaving as much tissue and cilia in place as possible to regenerate normal tissue. Otolaryngologists – head and neck specialists – have found endoscopic surgery to be highly effective in restoring normal function to the sinuses. The procedure removes areas of obstruction, facilitating the normal flow cleansing of mucus.
- Ear SurgeryThe treatment for ossicular chain dislocation is OSSICULAR CHAIN RECONSTRUCTION, an ear surgery. For more information on this treatment click here.

- BotoxWhat are Facial Fillers/Injections? Most commonly collagen – a gel-like substance derived from purified animal tissue, and fat – which is harvested from the patient’s thigh or abdomen and then injected to plump up facial areas or “fill†wrinkled areas (see also Botox). Facial fillers can also include calcium hydroxylapatite and hyaluronic acid. Ranging from a temporary to a long-lasting solution, facial fillers are administered through facial injections on specific areas of the face. There are various types of fillers available as each one is designed with one or several purposes, but a qualified professional can help you determine which facial injections are right for you. Depending on the individual and the number of areas being treated, filler injections can take about 10 to 20 minutes per session. Luckily, facial fillers don’t require a large amount of downtime. Typically, directly following treatment patients can return to work and their normal activities, but this will vary depending on the individual and the type of injectable filler used. In some cases, for the first 24 hours after treatment, certain individuals will be instructed to refrain from excessive heat or sun exposure, and strenuous activities.
- Eyelid Surgery
- Liposuction
- RhinoplastyRhinoplasty – Aesthetic surgery of the nose in which cartilage and bone are reshaped and reconstructed; excess bone or cartilage may be removed.
- Plastic SurgeryAs part of the reconstruction from necessary surgical manipulation, micro-vascular reconstruction can minimize cosmetic and functional defects from surgery. In certain cases, plastic surgery may need to be delayed for three to six months in order to allow the body to properly heal.
- Face Lift
- BlepharoplastyBlepharoplasty – Surgery of the eyelids in which fat and excess skin, bags, pouches, wrinkles in the eye area are removed.
- OtoplastyWhat is an Otoplasty? Also known as cosmetic ear surgery, otoplasty is a procedure to change the size, shape, and position of the ears. Maybe your ears stick out too far from your head, or maybe one or both of your ears are misshapen due to a congenital disability or an injury. With an otoplasty, deformed or protruding ears are able to be “pinned back†by reshaping the cartilage. While an otoplasty is often performed on both ears to ensure symmetry, having this procedure done will not alter your ability to hear, and it will not change the location of your ears. Usually, after the age of 5, the ears have reached their full size, so an otoplasty, if necessary, can be done at any age after this. However, in some instances, an otoplasty surgery can be done as early as the age of 3. If a child is under the age of 3 and was born with prominent ears or some other ear-shape issues, these issues might be able to be corrected with the use of a splint. Especially if they are started immediately after the child is born.
- Scar Revision
- Lip AugmentationWhy Use Facial Fillers? It’s natural that as we age, our skin becomes more susceptible to sagging and wrinkles as the years of muscle movement (from smiling, chewing, speaking, squinting, etc.) and sun exposure contributes to the breakdown of skin tissue. However, skin can be rejuvenated through the use of filler injections. Facial injections can replace soft-tissue volume loss, raise scar depressions, enhance the lips (lip augmentation), and can help reduce or eliminate wrinkles. Injections can help create a younger look in the face by volumizing the folds and creases that have formed due to the loss of fat and collagen.
- Cosmetic Surgery
- DermabrasionDermabrasion – A facial sanding technique used to treat deep scars and wrinkles, raised scar tissue, and some severe cases of cystic acne; top layers of skin are "sanded" off with a high-speed rotating brush or a diamond-coated wheel.
- Facial Implants
- Chin AugmentationCheek / Chin Augmentation – Surgery where implants are placed in the cheeks or chin to improve bone structure, balance a profile, or support sagging, soft tissues.
- Forehead Lift
- Skin Cancer
- Acne Treatment
- FungusMayo Clinic scientists have determined that inhaled fungus and mold trapped in the nasal mucus is one of the major causes of sinusitis. Regular cleansing of the nasal and sinus passages washes away mucus and its trapped inhalants.
- LesionsThe most common way of initially evaluating thyroid lesions is with an in-office needle aspiration, also called a “skinny needle” biopsy. Imaging including sonograms, CT scans, MRI, and nuclear scans may be necessary in the continued work up.
- Chemical PeelsChemical Peels – Resurfacing of the skin with an acid solution that peels the top layers and allows smoother, regenerated skin to emerge; an effective treatment for wrinkles caused by sun damage, mild scarring, and certain types of acne.
- MicrodermabrasionMicrodermabrasion – A mini-peeling with minimal risk of dyspigmentation or scarring that is achieved by projecting aluminum micro-crystals onto the skin (also referred as the "Power Peel," "Euro Peel", "Parisian Peel" or "Derma Peel"); safe for all skin types.
