The colorists charge like it is NYC and the results look like you did it yourself in your bathroom tub. The colorists don't listen to what you want, they are not great at color matching, and leave thick color residues around your scalp. After they mess up your hair, they do offer to fix it. The catch is that you have to make another appointment, pay another tip, and end up with fried hair. That's as a paying customer. If you go to "model" at one of their trainings, do it at your own peril. It is not that the newer stylists don't want to learn. At least the one I met seemed very eager to do a good job. But, they are not properly supervised. The supervisor for the one training did not know how to reformulate a color. If you don't like what they have in the computer, you are told that you can leave. If you do end up being lucky enough to talk to a supervisor, the condescension is priceless... I would say that you get what you pay for, but most of my appointments were $100-200+. So, I guess you pay quite a bit for that "complementary" cup of herbal tea.

I get my haircut by Jen every 8 weeks! She is so precise, my haircut always comes out perfect and I always get compliments on my hair. They are a bit pricey, but they have a student discount which makes it very affordable. The whole salon is incredibly professional and everyone is super friendly.

They have the best spa on town! Everyone is so friendly there. I could live in the quiet room, it is so relaxing and I love the cucumber water :) my massage was perfect and I can't wait to get a facial next time!

I started going to Designer's Denn when I heard about super discounted cuts to help train new stylists. For someone that's never cut a guy's hair before, the stylist (Jenn) did very well. Since then, I've always gone to her. I've had some really bad cuts in the past and am very particular about my look (being in sales), so it was a relief to find such a professional salon. The hair cuts are a bit more pricey than your typical cheapo cut, but you don't mind it once you've seen how awesome your cut is.

I have been to Designer's Denn for many years now. Dana is the best hair stylist I have ever had do my hair. Very attentive and does exactly what I want! However, you do pay for what you get. I have also been to the spa for facials and massages...all great, but again expensive.
The stylists are really nice but the salon is totally overpriced. Their prices are comparable with those salons in NYC...and lets face it, this is State College, PA. For the most part, they do a good job. But if you have a bad haircut or color...expect to have to pay to fix it. That is a definite negative in my opinion.
