Remember that you can't believe everything you read on the internet! Sometimes things happen that are out of your control I.E. An owner wanting to sell his property. And yes when you read the lease it specifically states in BIg BOlD letters how your deposit will be used.

I loved my apartment, but repair on my heater during winter took them forever and I had to use a plug in heater. Also, just got my deposit back and they used $560 out of the $750 I paid to "clean" my apartment. First off, they called me the night before I was moving from out-of-state to tell me the apartment I signed a year lease on had magically went up for sale and sold after they neglected to disclose that detail to me when I had signed my lease. They had to move me to a different unit that hadn't yet been cleaned or painted but then I spend a week cleaning the apartment before I moved out including wiping down all the walls, cleaning the refrigerator, windows, bathrooms and even shampooed the rugs and steam cleaned the floor. Just realize that your entire deposit will be used. Wish I would have left them a lot more to clean up if I had known it would cost me that much anyway. Plenty of other places in Starkville that are honest companies and give you your deposit back as long as you leave it clean.

Students and parents of students. Read the lease agreements very carefully. There are unscrupulous agents that prey upon students. With this group, make sure you do a complete walk through of the property and note EVERYTHING including pictures and if their ad denotes certain items to be included, double check to ensure they are, because they will not stand behind the ad afterwards.
