Dana Penny Schmitt is a licensed clinical social workers in a private practice partnership of Chrysalis Counseling Center in CT. She received her Master of Social Work Degree from Columbia University in NY. She has been working with individuals, couples, and families with the primary problems being eating disordered diagnoses. She is not limited to this and has substantial experience with co-morbidities. She has a passion for working with the adolescent population and the many issues that adolescents face in these times. She was previously a primary therapist at the Renfrew Center in Greenwich, CT working in the individual outpatient program and was team therapist with the Intensive and Day Treatment programs for eating disordered patients. She has extensive experience working with the dually diagnosed; sexually, physically, or emotionally abused population; sexual identity population; substance abuse population; adolescent and adult psychiatric population; patients with eating disorders; and the juvenile, DCF, and foster care systems. She utilizes an eclectic approach with every client and therapeutic group of which she chooses the appropriate intervention dependent on the needs and goals of the individual or groups of individuals. She frequently uses cognitive and dialectical behavioral therapy techniques in the approach she uses with her clientele. Dana has worked in several significant organizations that gave her a vast knowledge of different populations and modalities of therapy. The most significant of her previous positions was as The Primary Treatment Care Coordinator for the Eating Disorder and Adolescent Service at Silver Hill Hospital.
