The Sequoia National Forest is one of the 19 national forests in California. It consists of five ranger districts and is administered by the Forest Service division of the U.S. Department of Agriculture. The Sequoia National Forest offers a range of outdoor recreation activities, including hiking, backpacking, horseback riding and mountain biking. It also provides boating, fishing, waterskiing, swimming, whitewater rafting and kayaking activities. Its other recreational activities include snowboarding, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing and snowmobiling. The Sequoia National Forest is famous for Native Americans, cattle, gold prospecting, lumber camps, sheep drives, early day resorts, hot springs, pack stations, and isolated forest guard stations and fire lookouts. Established in 1908, the Sequoia National Forest maintains its supervisor s office in Porterville, Calif.
