The Department of Transportation provides a variety of transportation services throughout Fairfax County, Va. It plans, coordinates, funds, implements and sustains a multimodal transportation system. The department provides bus, metrorail and carpool services. The Department of Transportation also offers a bike program. Its community residential program works with residential developments, multifamily complexes and associations to promote the use of alternative modes of transportation, including public transit, as well as carpools, vanpools, walking and biking. The department is a part of the Fairfax County government, which also operates economic development, emergency management, health, information technology and public affairs departments. The Department of Transportation is located in Springfield, Va.
