The Division of Vital Records is a part of the Illinois Department of Public Health. The division preserves records on births, deaths, marriages and divorces. It registers more than 400,000 records annually. The division provides records for filing license applications and seeking insurance and government benefits. The Division of Vital Records offers documents to individuals and the members of immediate family. The division provides the Illinois Adoption Registry and Medical Information Exchange program. In addition, it offers certified birth records for foreign travel purposes. The Division of Vital Records provides a variety of resources for individuals involved in genealogical research projects.
