General Info
The Spokane Tribe of Indians is a sovereign government body led by the Spokane Tribal Business Council. The council consists of a tribal chairman, vice chairman, tribal secretary and council members. It also administers the Water and Fish Program, which evaluates the fish stock status, as well as includes habitat assessment services. The Spokane Tribe of Indians operates a hatchery that produces kokanee salmon and rainbow trout every year for release into Lake Roosevelt, Banks Lake and reservation inland lakes. Its tribal membership includes more than 2,400 people. Headquartered in Wellpinit, Wash., the council has a department of natural resources that preserves, protects, manages and enhances the long-term sustainability of various natural resources for present and future generations.
