The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife works to provide lean water, food and cover to fish and wildlife, as well as manages more than 800,000 acres of land that provides habitat and migration routes to wild species. It enforces habitat protection laws, removes dangerous wild animals and arrests poachers. The department administers a fish and wildlife commission that is comprised of over five members who are appointed by the governor and confirmed by the senate. The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife issues hunting and fishing permits. It is also responsible for habitat restoration and protection. The department manages more than 640 animal species and offers various employment opportunities to citizens. The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife supports several school, environmental, public and hunter education programs. It maintains one of its locations in Spokane Valley, Wash.
