General Info
A little bit ... Southold Free Library serves the hamlets of Southold and Peconic. The Library opened in its present locale on December 15, 1928. The original brick building was built in 1891 for the former Southold Savings Bank. In 1925, Edna Cahoon Booth purchased the building from the bank and donated it to the Library in memory of her parents. An extension was completed in 1991. We are a member of the Suffolk Cooperative Library System The Southold Free Library is committed to providing access to quality information and ideas. We encourage the love of reading and the joy of learning. Our high quality and friendly staff provides excellent customer service and are happy to welcome you and the entire family. The circulation staff assists with general library information, resolves problems, registers patrons, and checks out library materials. ( 2nd Level ) A full reference collection includes almanacs, directories, atlases, financial resources, consumer information, health resources, etc. Access to the Internet from six stations enhances the print collection. YOUTH SERVICES ( Main Level ) A dedicated area serves youth from birth to teens. A special collection serves parents and youth professionals. Four multi-media computers are available with materials suited for ages 2-14. Programs are offered year round. Regular visits from Southold School classes in grades K-3 are unique to Southold Free Library ( Main Level ) Videos, DVD's, CD's, CD-ROMS, audiocassettes and recorded books may be borrowed for home use. Loan periods vary from two days to two weeks.
