General Info
Dr. Vishnu Rumalla of Tarrant Plastic Surgery has earned certification by the American Board of Plastic Surgeons, and proudly serves the community of Southlake, Texas. When choosing a cosmetic surgeon, his or her training and certification matters. Unfortunately, understanding the alphabetic soup of degrees and certifications can be confusing. Dr. Rumalla serves Southlake, Keller, and Fort Worth as a surgeon double board-certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and the American Board of Surgery. Both of these boards are recognized by the American Board of Medical Specialties. The ABMS is comprised of 24 Boards recognized for the highest of standards required to educate, train, review, and maintain quality and competency of its members. There are many entities and certifications which use the title "Board" which are not recognized by the ABMS. To become certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery Dr. Rumalla first had to complete his plastic surgery fellowship at Indiana University. The plastic surgery program at Indiana University is recognized by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education. Only surgeons who have completed an ACGME-recognized plastic surgery training program are eligible to become Diplomats of the American Board of Plastic Surgery. During his time at Indiana University, Dr. Rumalla performed thousands of procedures under the supervision of his board-certified mentors. He was able to learn from leaders in the field not only the technical aspects of surgery, but more importantly, the who, the when, and the where of operating. Dr. Rumalla reminds us that the most important decisions in surgery are those made before the procedure itself. During your consultation, Dr. Rumalla will customize a plan that, given your informed consent and approval, will be used in surgery. Do not compromise on the training of your surgeon. In addition to his fellowship training, Dr. Rumalla had to pass a comprehensive written examination to become a member of the American Board of Plastic Surgery. Following the written examination, Dr. Rumalla had to present a log of his surgical experiences which was thoroughly reviewed by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. Only a surgeon with adequate experience will then be allowed to take an oral examination in front on several ABPS-certified surgeons. This oral examination is designed to assure competence, character, and quality decision making. The entire grueling process takes years but serves to best protect the public's interest. Finally, Diplomats of the American Board of Plastic Surgery must undergo an annual process of maintenance of certification which includes maintaining adequate hospital privileges, peer review, continuing medical education, and lifelong examination. Furthermore, members like Dr. Rumalla of the American Board of Plastic Surgery must adhere to code of ethics which emphasizes patient safety, evidence-based medicine, and compassionate care.
