General Info
If you asked 10 year old Rebecca Kelln, MS, MPAS, RD, PA-C, what she wanted to be when she grew up, she would’ve proudly told you that she wanted to be an archaeologist. Eventually, she realized a different dream, and she is now a Physician Assistant with Beacon Medical Group Pediatric Specialty. “I idolized my father, a gastroenterologist, and my grandfather, a surgeon,” she said. “Growing up, my world was filled with stories of the challenges and successes of serving others in this country and overseas, through the avenue of medicine.” Kelln took the plunge to attend school at Union College in Lincoln, Nebraska, where she earned her Masters of Physician Assistant Studies. Now, she works primarily with two groups of patients: children who need help to breathe better, and children who need to sleep better. She is able to help them through the use of medications, education, treatments, and behavior modifications. “I believe in empowering my patients through knowledge, understanding, and accountability,” she said. “I view medicine as a way to serve my community and help people live life to the fullest. I believe that my patients need to be heard, and they play a vital role in maximizing their own health.” After working with a patient, she hopes that they learn to understand their disease processes and to better take care of themselves. In Her Own Words Who is or was the most influential person/role model in your life? My father, who practiced as a missionary doctor and later in the US as a gastroenterologist, has been an amazing role model of integrity, skill and compassion. What was your first job growing up? What do you remember about it? My first job for someone other than family was a once weekly cleaning job for one of my neighbors. I think I was in 5th or 6th grade. What is your favorite food? Movie? My favorite food: Middle Eastern Movie: The Scarlet And The Black What were your best/worst subjects in school growing up? Best: science and history Worst: English If you could sit down to dinner with anyone (alive or deceased) who would it be and why? Bible characters like the Apostle Paul because their lives have been so colorful and so influential through history. In addition to medicine, what are you passionate about? I love being outdoors whether it is camping, hiking, kayaking or gardening, good food and good nutrition and reading good biographies. Do you have pets? I have recently rescued a Shi Tzu after having a number of Australian Shepherds. This is a whole new experience (haircuts, clothes!!) What is something most people don’t know about you? That my favorite place to visit is Zion National Park.
