- Teeth CleaningA professional dental cleaning takes about 30 minutes and should be performed every six months to prevent excessive plaque buildup. Plaque left untreated can lead to unhealthy gums and tooth decay. A routine dental cleaning should include scaling, root planing and polishing.
- Dental SealantsSealants are a preventive treatment in dentistry intended to protect teeth which may have fine grooves or pits that accumulate plaque overtime. These grooves create a problem because the grooves are too narrow to allow even one bristle into them, not because the person doesn't brush. When plaque accumulates, it can lead to cavities and other types of tooth decay. To apply sealants, a plastic material is brushed onto the tooth, filling these narrow grooves and preventing the cavity-causing buildup.

- Resin CompositeThe direct technique is often referred to as “bonding” because it involves placing composite resin on the outside of the tooth and bonding the material to the teeth.
- VeneersVeneers are a cosmetic dental procedure in which a thin layer of porcelain or composite material is placed over the outside of the tooth to improve esthetics or help with tooth damage. Veneers can be direct or indirect.
- CrownsCrowns, also called “caps” are used to restore or replace teeth that are missing or damaged. A crown is used to entirely cover a damaged tooth and not only strengthens the tooth, but it can also dramatically improve the tooth's appearance, shape, and alignment.

- Root Canal TreatmentRoot canal treatment, also referred to as root canal therapy or endodontic therapy, is used to save an infected or damaged tooth and avoid having to remove it. A root canal becomes necessary when a neglected cavity reaches all the way to the pulp at the center of the tooth, causing the pulp to become infected. Regular cleanings and checkups are recommended to detect and prevent problems early on.
- Deep Cleaning
- DenturesDentures are either a complete (replaces all teeth) or partial (replaces some teeth) replacement for missing teeth and surrounding tissues that is removable. Dentures are made to resemble your natural teeth, so there should be no noticeable change to appearance. In fact, dentures may even improve a smile!
- Dental ImplantsIf you are missing one or more teeth for reasons like injury or periodontal disease our team may recommend an Implant. First a metal post, which will act as a permanent "root", is surgically positioned into the jaw. After some recovery time, our highly- trained team will place an implant to meet your dental needs. Implants require healthy gums, adequate bone and a commitment to excellent oral hygiene and regular dental visits.

- General DentistryMy professional career in dentistry started 20 years ago at the University of Kentucky College of Dentistry. I furthered my education by completing a 2 year Advanced Education in General Dentistry residency. Significant achievements in my career include attaining Board Certification by the American Board of General Dentistry. Currently, only 1 percent of general dentists have achieved this prestigious Board Certification status. Another significant achievement was attaining Fellowship status in the Academy of General Dentistry. Only 24 dentists in the Commonwealth have attained this professional distinction and I am proud to be counted among them. I served 6 years in the United States Army as a dental officer and in 2014 I left the Army after I received promotion to Major and returned to civilian life as owner of Somerset Family Dentistry. Since that time our office has continued to expand the range of clinical services offered and are proud to deliver some of the most innovative and cutting edge dental treatment available.
