The Town Hall is governed by the Town of Smithtown in New York. The town government manages engineering, public safety and senior citizens department. Its building department issues permits for new construction, addition and alteration works. The department is also responsible for the enforcement of zoning regulations. The town government administers the Town of Smithtown School Age Child Care, which is a self-sustaining, school-based program for working families. In addition, its recreation department offers a selection of leisure and recreational activities for individuals of all ages. The town government operates a highway department that is responsible for the maintenance and improvement of roads, drainage systems, recharge basins, sidewalks and driveway aprons.
