Established in 1931, Smithsburg Community Volunteer Fire Company is a member of the Maryland State Fireman's Association. It is a public safety agency. The company maintains a communication center that coordinates responses to fire, police and medical emergencies. It employs firefighters and prevention and investigation officers.
