His interests include gastrointestinal surgery; endoscopy; general thoracic surgery; hernia repair; trauma/critical care; treatment of breast disease including stereotactic breast biopsy; endocrine surgery including that of the thyroid and parathyroid; sclerotherapy for varicose veins; surgical oncology including sentinel lymph node biopsies; surgical weight loss procedures including gastric bypass, gastric band, and the sleeve gastrectomy procedures; and non-surgical weight loss options including the ORBERA intragastric balloon.

- EndoscopyDr. Thaemert has special interest in all areas of minimally invasive general surgery including Single Incision Laparoscopic Surgery (SILS), endoscopic overstitch procedures, and robotic assisted surgical techniques. Other interests include general thoracic surgery; trauma/critical care; abdominal surgery; gastrointestinal surgery; hernia repair; surgical oncology including sentinel lymph node biopsies; endoscopy; endocrine surgery including that of the thyroid and parathyroid; sclerotherapy for varicose veins; surgical treatment of acid reflux; surgical weight loss procedures including gastric bypass, gastric band, and the sleeve gastrectomy procedures; and non-surgical weight loss options including the ORBERA intragastric balloon and the endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty (ESG) procedures.

- General SurgeryDr. Emily Murphy received her medical degree from the University of South Dakota Sanford School of Medicine and completed a residency in General Surgery at Christiana Care Health System in Newark, Delaware. She went on to complete a Fellowship in Endocrine Surgery at the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Dr. Murphy is Board Certified in General Surgery.
- Laparoscopic SurgeryDr. Person has a special interest in all areas of minimally invasive laparoscopic surgery including robotic assisted techniques. His interests include general surgery, complex hernia repair, trauma/critical care and surgeries/biopsies of the pancreas, stomach, esophagus, colon, gallbladder, liver, thyroid, parathyroid, and skin. In addition, Dr. Person has special interest in the surgical treatment of the pancreas.
- Bariatric SurgeryDr. Strand is an active member of the South Dakota State Medical Association (SDSMA), the American Medical Association (AMA), the American College of Surgeons (ACS), the American Society of General Surgeons (ASGS), the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS), the Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons (SLS), the Seventh District Medical Society, and Alpha Omega Alpha. Dr. Strand is also a member of the Avera Health Plans Regional Care Council. He has served as the South Dakota Chairman of the Committee on Trauma for the American College of Surgeons and on the Regional Emergency Medical Services Authority Board. In addition, he has served in many roles at Avera McKennan Hospital including Chief of Staff, Vice Chief of Staff, and Chairman of the Department of Surgery.
