The Shelby Police Department operates detention, operations, and investigative and staff services bureaus. It has animal control patrol, special operations and fleet management divisions. The department also has a criminal investigations division that handles cases related to fraud, domestic violence, homicide, forgery, burglary, theft and violent crimes. The Shelby Police Department operates a Special Weapons and Tactics team, bomb squad, diving team, traffic enforcement team, motorcycle unit and bike patrol. In addition, it has a training unit that offers instructional courses and skill maintenance programs in firearms, defensive tactics, communication skills, emergency vehicle operations and physical fitness.
