Established in 1869, the Scottsboro Police Department is a law enforcement agency that promotes public safety, identifies and solves criminal cases and safeguards citizens rights. It provides services for criminal history checks, fingerprinting, taxi and alcohol permits, crime investigation and accident reporting. The Scottsboro Police Department employs a staff of more than 45 full-time sworn officers and over 35 civilians and community volunteers. The department operates a detention center and jail that houses inmates who are in pending trial status and serving short-term misdemeanor sentences. Located in Scottsboro, Ala., the Scottsboro Police Department has detective, administration, uniformed patrol and communication divisions.
