A division of The Haven Line Industries, The Schuylkill Haven Casket Company was established in 1919. Founder Robert Houck, together with a few other men, refurbished an old steel mill in Schuylkill Haven, Pa., and began producing wooden caskets. Servicing the funeral industry with hardwood caskets, the company manufactures 50 different casket designs using eight species of wood, including walnut, mahogany, cherry, maple, pine, oak, poplar and aromatic red cedar. Pennsylvania is one of the most diverse hardwood lumber regions in the world, The Schuylkill Haven Casket Company is able to purchase most of its 'green' lumber from local mills. The company distributes units directly to licensed funeral directors and funeral homes in the Northeast through its warehouses. Through its distributors Schuylkill Haven s woods are available to funeral homes in 35 states.
