Dr. Peter Purcell treats patients with a variety of gastrointestinal ailments, including acid reflux disease (GERD), Barretts esophagus, digestive disorders, gastrointestinal cancers, hemochromatosis, hepatitis, inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), Crohns Disease, and ulcerative colitis. Dr. Purcell is a member of the American Medical Association, the American Gastroenterological Association, American College of Physicians, American College of Physician Executives, American College of Gastroenterology, American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, American Society of Internal Medicine, the New York State Society of Internal Medicine, and the Schenectady County Health Care Issues Committee. He previously served as a past chair for the American College of Gastroenterologys National Patient Care Committee and, while in this position, promoted digestive disease teaching programs to educate the public and lobbied for patient rights on colorectal cancer issues. Dr. Purcells work has been published in The American Journal of Gastroenterology and clinical research interests include focal proctitis, toxic megacolon in Chrohns Disease, and the spectrum of primary biliary cirrhosis.
