Provided by YPmobileMy 87yr old father was lucky to be a candidate for Health South’s Rehab program after spending 2 weeks in the hospital from acute renal failure. He undergoes 3.5 hours (5 sessions) of physical, occupational and mental acuity therapy daily and the results have been nothing short of a miracle! He is rapidly rebuilding physical strength, confidence, and the ability to mobilize himself all while undergoing in-room dialysis 3 days a week. I can say that the entire PT and nursing team has been instrumental, encouraging, and enthusiastic in getting him back on his feet. Our family is so grateful!! The only reason I am giving a four star is because his case manager dropped the ball on his discharge, so the first week was chaotic, but we muddled through.

Provided by YP.comThis place is the best! My 25 yr son was admitted here after being in an induced coma.We never thought he would walk or talk again after they removed him from the ventilator. Health South was recommended by friends here in Sarasota I went on line and was frightened by some of the reviews. The place he was is the worst hospital in Florida. We figured any place will be better than where he was. Debra Burns his case worker was fantastic and organized the transfer. She kept me up to date in everything. They arranged pickup in Orlando to Sarasota and I was notified when he arrived late in the evening. His goals were clearly outlined and what will be done to achieve them. He needed most importantly to become mobile again and to gain weight along with keeping his blood levels correct so he does not become acidotic. The therapists are upbeat and very motivational. The nurses were caring, competent and pleasant. Dr Hume took the time to answer my questions and concerns. The place was spotless and rooms inviting and comfortable. Whenever I called I was able to reach him. Whenever I visited there was a chart and various cards of specialists who visited him. A very nice touch was they hang the picture up of the case worker and doctor in charge for the day. This place is well run and organized. Within 2 days my son's color came back, he was slowly walking and smiling. He was discharged after one week of working hard during PT and all the encouragement of the staff. They are equipped for other health conditions such as my son's RTA or respiratory and other illness. In no way am I trying to diminish anyone's negative experiences but feel it is so important for families to decide what type of hospital should a loved one be at. Do they want a place designed for loved ones to lead active and independent lives? Then this is the place. My son is now back to daily living at home. This place is a well organized, caring, clean and positive environment!

Provided by YP.comI could write a volume of great reviews for this hospital. My husband was there in Jan. for 10 days, and my 92 y.o. father-in-law just recently for 2 wks. This hosp. was recommended to us for my husband by quite a few people who had experienced the great care that my loved ones rec'd. ALL of the staff, from the person at the front desk to the doctors in charge, were PLEASANT, SMILING, CARING, HELPFUL, etc., etc . They were always there for us. And the therapy experience was very healing. Most rehab facilities have just an hour or two of therapy/day...HealthSouth provided 3 hrs./day...some days more. I will recommend this hosp. at every opportunity.

Provided by YP.comi can't believe a hospital care center can be so understaffed, uncaring,no communication skills what so ever for patients needs. I also see that nurses don't READ CHARTS OF THEIR PATIENTS IN ORDER TO FACILITATE THE CARE THEY NEED. their only a hand full of staff that are capable to handle a certified nurse's job. as for physical therapy it is understaffed and paid well for no results. How can a patient get rehabilitated if he is not motivated by the staff to do the required exercises to get himself or herself up and moving to return to a normal way of life. The caseworkers assigned to the cases just seem to be going through the motions and saying whatever to appease the family. I have been to a few rehab facilities and was totally appalled by what I saw and heard. I feel the state should get involved and evaluate this facility. Being that I am so unsatisfied with this facility I think the news networks should take a look and let the public know how people are mistreated in these rehab facilities. I have seen and spoken to other patients who have also voiced their concerns about this facility and about the staff there as well.
