Dr. Barbara P. Srur is a child, adolescent and adult psychiatrist who has worked in the Sarasota / Bradenton area for 24 years in both inpatient and outpatient settings. She is an experienced psychopharmacologist who takes an integrative approach, evaluating the whole person, not just the acute symptoms. She believes in using medications only when indicated and in the lowest effective dose. She specializes in the treatment of depression, bipolar disorders, ADHD, anxiety disorders and eating disorders. Her goal is to help her patients return to their highest level of functioning. She was born in Hungary and came to the United States as a child. Her international exposure includes medical school in France, as well as the Peace Corps service as a high school chemistry teacher in Malaysia. She has traveled extensively and speaks French and Hungarian fluently. Dr. Srur trained as an intern in pediatrics as well as a child psychiatry fellow at the prestigious North Shore University Hospital, Cornell Medical School in New York. Her adult psychiatry training was at Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Montefiore, Jacobi, as well as Bronx State Hospitals. She is certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, as well as the American Board of Holistic and Integrative Medicine. She is an Associate Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at Florida State University and continues to teach third year medical students. She is on the active staff at Sarasota Memorial Hospital. Her association with Drs Peter Kaplan and Rob Winegar created Neuropsych Associates, a multi-disciplinary mental health clinic. In addition to psychiatric evaluations and medication management, we offer a gamut of services including neuropsychological testing for children and adults, play therapy, parent training, individual, couples and family therapy. We are accepting new patients.
