Went in to sell a used gold chain.
They asked if I had ID first. I did.
In my presence they looked over my chain and after asking permission, did a non damaging test to verify it was gold.
It was. 14k.
They told me what they estimated it's retail value was worth new and what they could offer me if I chose to sell it to them.
That turned out to be about 80% of the value they felt it was worth when new.
Which was along the lines of what I expected for a retail jeweler store location.
The internet gold buyers claim to offer the highest prices for your gold. But do I really feel comfortable dropping potentially thousands of dollars of gold into the mail? Especially when it's a mix of Karat amounts and or includes items that you aren't sure of the gold content? Not to mention the longer turn around time to get your money, the risk of loss in transit, the lack of recourse and delay if unhappy with the resulting offer, or chance that it's some straight up internet scam. For what? An extra 10%?
I can live without all that. In fact I'm happy to pay 10% to avoid all that. So anyway....
I felt it was a fair offer and took their offer.
After showing ID and giving a digital signature & thumbprint, they cut me a 4 figure check drawn on a local bank a couple blocks away.
The person who helped me was very easy going, professional and friendly. No high pressure tactics, judgement, or tricks. Also took the time to provide free advice on some broken watches I had questions about. It was a good experience and I'd go there again. The store was also packed with a lot of awesome & unusual stuff. Particularly if you had a big roll of cash to drop on quality items.
Cool place. Cool people.
