- About the courseLocated in the dramatic scenery of Northern New Mexico's Pojoaque Valley, Towa's three independent nine-hole courses challenge with dramatic elevation changes, seasonal weather conditions, and scenery of such extraordinary beauty it threatens to distract the most focused golfer. Whether you're putting for birdie in the winter sunshine with a view of the Santa Fe Ski Mountain above or teeing off in the new greenery of the Spring, Towa can challenge the low handicappers, but offers an enjoyable experience for golfers of all levels. Part of the Hilton Santa Fe Golf Resort and Spa at Buffalo Thunder, Towa was designed jointly by twenty-time PGA titlist Hale Irwin and noted golf course designer and landscape architect William Phillips. The Boulder Nine: Opened in 2001, this Phillips design measures 3,640 yards from the back tees. It features the only island green in New Mexico. The PiƱon Nine: Also opened in 2001, this is an Irwin-designed course measuring 3,615 yards. The Valley Nine: The most recently-completed course, Valley is an Irwin design opened in 2009. It measures 3,575 yards. Towa takes advantage of the natural topography, unique rock formations and natural vegetation indigenous to the region providing excellent separation of the individual holes. The course's fairways are a mix of Kentucky bluegrass, ryegrass, fescue roughs, and native grasses. Tees and greens are sodded with bentgrass. Elevation changes on all the courses keep every golfer on his or her toes. The final par 3 on the Boulder course drops 100 feet from the tee box to the green! The average green size for the course is 6,500 sq. ft., which is slightly larger than the national average of 6,300 sq. ft. The 27 holes have a USGA slope of 136 and USGA rating of 73.1 from the back tees. From the front tees, the holes have a slope of 101 and a rating of 62.3. Towa also offers a practice facility featuring a driving range situated so players will never find the sun in their eyes. Green fees include use of the range as well as two putting and chipping practice greens. When it's finally time to come inside, you can still keep gazing at the spectacular scenery. Grab a drink or a snack at the Towa Bar & Grill, which offers panoramic views of the Pojoaque Valley, bordered by the majestic Sangre de Cristo and Jemez Mountain ranges. The Clubhouse features a dining room and bar as well as a spacious outdoor patio area and is available to rent for meetings or private parties. The golf shop offers guests golf apparel and equipment as well as brand new Nike club rentals and free club fittings by our PGA professionals.
