VIASPACE was founded in July 1998 and is a company that works to transform proven space and defense technologies from NASA and the United States Department of Defense into products that will fulfill high-growth market needs and solve complex problems. Through its three subsidiaries, Arroyo Sciences, Ionfinity and Direct Methanol Fuel Cell Corporation, VIASPACE has a diversified high-tech portfolio that includes microelectronics, sensors, homeland security and public safety, energy/fuel cells, information and computational technology, RFID, e-finance and mobile e-commerce. VIASPACE has licensed patents and software technology from the California Institute of Technology, also known as Caltech, which manages the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, or JPL, for NASA. This technology was developed by scientists and engineers at JPL over the last decade and was funded by NASA and the Department of Defense. The company focuses on technologies originally developed for NASA and the U.S. Department of Defense that has already reached a certain stage of maturity.
