- Headaches
- CryotherapyCoolSculpting Elite uses cryolipolysis, a form of cryotherapy that freezes fat cells in a targeted area by using an applicator attached to the skin. Since fat cells freeze at a higher temperature than the surrounding skin and muscle, the CoolSculpting technology can freeze the fat without damaging the surrounding tissue.
- Medical Weight LossH ave you tried various diet and exercise programs but to no avail? Or maybe you are left with excess or loose skin after significant weight loss or pregnancy?
- Primary CareThis also means that patients with breast implants should continue their usual screening for breast cancer as instructed by their primary care doctor or OBGYN.
- Urinary IncontinenceBotox has been used for decades, both for medical and cosmetic purposes. As a medical treatment, Botox has been found useful in addressing symptoms of challenging conditions like blepharospasm (uncontrollable eye twitching) and a painful neck disorder known as cervical dystonia. Today, Botox continues to be a preferred medical treatment for these conditions, as well as chronic migraines, excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis) and some types of urinary incontinence. Botox Cosmetic was approved by the FDA in 2002 to treat glabellar lines—the vertical lines between the eyebrows known as frown lines. Since this initial approval, clearance has been extended to the treatment of horizontal forehead lines and crow’s feet. The medication is also often used to reduce the appearance of bunny lines and produce subtle brow lift effects.
- EndometriosisPlasma is the fourth state of matter, an ionized gas with unique properties that are well-suited to skin tightening. Because lower temperatures are possible with helium plasma, and there is greater precision with this device than other types of energy, it offers superior results with fewer risks and side effects. Before its introduction on the aesthetic scene, plasma was successfully used to treat endometriosis. The precision of the plasma beam allowed for the removal of scar tissue from the bowels and colon without damaging the organs. When applied to aesthetic procedures, J-Plasma technology delivers a controlled beam of helium plasma to the underside of the dermal structure, providing a minimally invasive surgical approach to constricting tissue and stimulating collagen production. The addition of this step during a neck lift results in a smoother, tighter look to the outer surface of the skin, reducing the signs of aging in even patients who have experienced significant skin laxity.
- PregnancyMommy Makeovers are a large part of Dr. Lowenstein’s practice at Montecito Plastic Surgery. Dr. Lowenstein understands that each and every woman’s body is different before pregnancy, and the effects of pregnancy and childbirth affect women to varying degrees.
- Labor and DeliveryThe biggest risk of nipple surgery for nipple inversion is the inability to breastfeed in the future. Since nipple surgery involves cutting across milk ducts, it can decrease milk production after childbirth. Sometimes women can still breastfeed, but they may not be able to produce enough breast milk, and supplementation for the baby may be necessary.

- UltrasoundU ltherapy is a non-surgical face treatment that uses tried and true ultrasound energy to lift, tone and tighten loose or sagging skin. Through the use of ultrasound imaging, we can see the layers of tissue we target during the treatment and ensure that the energy is deposited precisely where it will be most effective.
- MRIAs the name suggests, the IDEAL IMPLANT® blends the best qualities of all the other implants, creating an ideal middle ground. Specifically, the product attempts to provide the look and feel of gel implants with the lower maintenance of saline. No MRI is required with these implants to monitor for silent rupture.
- RadiologyIf you are concerned that you may have a seroma, or if you have silicone breast implants over 5 years old and have not had your recommended MRI, contact our office. Dr. Lowenstein has negotiated a discounted rate for MRI studies at Pueblo Radiology for his patients. Contact us here.
- ChemotherapyMost cases of BIA-ALCL are treated by removing the implant and the capsule around it. Sometimes, chemotherapy and radiation may also be required. This usually takes care of the issue without further complication or death.
- Minimally Invasive SurgeryThe J-Plasty neck lift is not like the vampire lift in any way. The vampire lift is a non-surgical treatment that delivers platelets from the patient’s own blood into the dermal structure to promote cell renewal and collagen production. The J-Plasty neck lift is a minimally invasive surgery that truly tightens redundant skin on the neck from the inside out to produce a superior rejuvenation result.
- Orthopedic SurgeryFollow-up is an important aspect of having breast implants. Dr. Lowenstein tells his patients to call or schedule an appointment if they have any concerns about their breast implants. The FDA also recommends that patients with silicone gel implants have regular MRI screening, not for BIA-ALCL but for rupture. Followup is important for all types of procedures- in plastic surgery, orthopedic surgery, abdominal surgery, or following most any procedure.
- Reconstructive SurgeryIn addition to the misleading advertising practices listed above, some groups of physicians have created their own “boards.” One of these, the American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, does require significant and proper training in the field of plastic surgery that is limited to the head and neck region.
- BotoxI f you are ready to say goodbye to some of the telltale signs of aging that often develop long before you are prepared for them, Botox might be the right treatment for you. Botox Cosmetic is a prescription medication that can be injected into the muscles as a simple, nonsurgical treatment for some of the signs of aging that commonly appear on the upper face.
- Brow LiftIn 1999 one of Dr. Lowenstein’s mentors, Dr. Bahman Guyuron, discovered that some of his patients experienced relief from their migraine headaches following brow lift surgery. After this discovery, Dr. Guyuron investigated and found that out of 39 patients who had suffered migraines prior to their surgery, 31 experienced a significant improvement or elimination of their migraine headaches.
- Eyelid SurgeryMost of the aging symptoms you see develop around the eyes can be eliminated or reversed with eyelid surgery. This procedure removes excess skin to open the eyes and refresh the appearance. Puffiness caused by fatty deposits is reduced by eliminating excess fat, and the skin is drawn tighter to create a smoother contour around the eyes.
- LiposuctionNearly anyone can be a liposuction candidate. However, liposuction is most suited for healthy adults who are already near their ideal weight.
- Breast AugmentationT o enhance breast size and shape or to reconstruct breasts after a mastectomy, plastic surgeons often use implants. These medical devices, which have been around since the 1960s, are the mainstay of breast augmentation surgery. Technology has advanced since those times, and today’s patients have a wide range of breast implant types and profiles to choose from.
- Breast ReductionB reast reduction is a surgical procedure used to reduce and resize disproportionately large, drooping breasts. A breast reduction not only improves the way a patient looks by giving a more youthful appearance to the breasts, but it also relieves weight-bearing pain in the neck, shoulders and back to allow for more comfort during physical activity.
- Breast LiftWhile breast sagging is perfectly normal, it can lead to low self-esteem and even anxiety for some women. A breast lift can help restore the perkiness you once had or wish to experience. Also known as a mastopexy, a breast lift refers to several different techniques that rejuvenate and lift droopy and sagging breasts.
- Breast ReconstructionShaped implants are the newest type of implant to become available. In their early days, they enjoyed a vigorous marketing effort as the newest and “best.” Now, as they have lost some of their luster, shaped implants are primarily utilized in breast reconstruction following mastectomy. They are also a good aesthetic option for some patients, and Dr. Lowenstein’s experience with all types of breast implants will allow him to help you decide if these are right for you. Like smooth round silicone implants, shaped silicone implants also come with a low risk of rupture and capsular contracture (hardening of scar tissue around the implant). The teardrop shape and textured outer surface help these implants stay in place, which can be advantageous for women who prefer a firm look and feel and for those who have a little bit of drooping. Shaped implants require a larger incision for placement but can be an excellent choice for the right candidate.
- Plastic SurgeryMontecito Plastic Surgery does not mean Montecito prices. At Montecito Plastic Surgery, our fees are not inflated just because of our location in Santa Barbara. Dr. Lowenstein believes that all of our patients should benefit from having the best plastic surgery experience possible.
- Thigh LiftLoss of tone and skin elasticity in the thigh area is very common with age, especially in women. Thigh lifts were traditionally used to correct this problem. However, these surgeries leave prominent scars and require a long recovery period. Thanks to Renuvion® technology, Dr. Lowenstein can now offer these patients a safer and quicker alternative to a thigh lift.
- Face LiftAging of the face affects each patient individually, making consideration of any facial rejuvenation procedure a very personal decision. The facelift procedure or rhytidectomy addresses many aspects of the aging face to restore a refreshed, more youthful appearance. Areas of concern may be varied or specific.
- Neck LiftR enuvion® — also known as J-Plasma®, J-plasty and cool plasma — is a new, non-surgical approach to treating loose and/or saggy skin. Its technology is based on plasma energy created by combining radiofrequency and helium plasma. This revolutionary treatment is a fantastic non-invasive alternative to a neck lift, tummy tuck or arm lift. It provides noticeable skin tightening, elimination of “crepe-like” wrinkly skin and increased skin elasticity, as well as a decrease in skin laxity.
- BlepharoplastyDr. Lowenstein performs blepharoplasty under local anesthesia with sedation for many patients. If additional procedures are done at the same time, general anesthesia may be recommended instead. Your exact procedural details may vary depending on what is being addressed, but you will receive an explanation ahead of time so you’ll know what to expect. Incisions are strategically placed in areas where scarring will not be noticeable, such as in the crease of the upper eyelid, inside the eyelid, or underneath the eyelashes. Surgery may take an hour or two, depending on the amount of correction required. Blepharoplasty is an outpatient procedure, so patients go home a few hours after their surgery.
- AbdominoplastyFormally known as abdominoplasty, a tummy tuck is a surgical procedure performed to flatten the abdomen by removing excess fat and skin. It may also involve restoring weakened muscles. This procedure can help reshape your midsection by making it appear more youthful and toned. Ideal candidates for a tummy tuck are relatively healthy adults with excess skin, belly fat and abdominal wall weakness.
- Body LiftBesides around the abdomen, people who lose a significant amount of weight are also often left with excess tissue around the lower back, thighs and buttocks. Others may simply find it challenging to lose weight in these particular areas. A lower body lift can help address these issues. The procedure involves performing an abdominoplasty in conjunction with a flank, thigh and buttock lift. Tightening of abdominal wall muscles may also be performed along with liposuction.
- Breast SurgeryNipple inversion can be congenital, meaning it occurs at birth. The nipples can also turn inward after breast surgery or breast injury. Other reasons for nipple inversion include pregnancy, breastfeeding and aging as the breasts start to change beginning in the mid-30s. Breast inversion can continue through menopause as the milk ducts shorten, causing tension in the nipples and pulling them inwards.
- Body ContouringCoolSculpting is the only FDA-approved treatment that uses cryolipolysis, or the freezing of fat cells, to permanently remove unwanted fat from the body in a completely safe and non-invasive manner. CoolSculpting remains the gold standard in body contouring and fat removal treatments to which all others are compared.
- GynecomastiaG ynecomastia is a condition in men where the breast tissue is overdeveloped or enlarged. This results in excess breast tissue and may affect one or both breasts. Gynecomastia affects men of all ages; enlarged male breasts can develop in young boys from as early as puberty and can occur well into adulthood.
- Cosmetic SurgeryThe majority of these physicians are originally trained in Ear, Nose and Throat Surgery and have good and safe knowledge of this region of the body. Other boards, such as the American Board of Cosmetic Surgery, accept physicians that have had residency training in areas of medicine that do not even emphasize surgical practice.
- Facial ImplantsWhether you’re interested in a chin or cheek augmentation, these procedures are performed on an outpatient basis under general or local anesthesia, depending on your preferences and the amount of correction needed. The surgical placement of facial implants is done through small, hidden incisions, usually inside the mouth. Once the incisions are made, Dr. Lowenstein will create a pocket and insert the chin or cheek implant, molding it to fit your bone structure and create the desired result. After securing the implant, the incisions will be closed. The entire process lasts just 30 minutes to an hour, though any additional procedures being performed at the same time will increase your surgical time.
- Bariatric SurgeryS ignificant weight loss from dieting, bariatric surgery and even pregnancy often leaves loose and extra skin behind. Body contouring, also known as body sculpting, can help remove this excess skin as well as reshape areas of the body to reveal a beautiful shape that lies underneath.
- Chin AugmentationChin augmentation is a surgical procedure that restores visual balance to the face and profile. This is accomplished using chin implants, which add height, width and volume to correct the appearance of a small or weak chin and refine your facial contours. Chin augmentation is suitable for both men and women who want to sculpt a more defined jawline and can provide permanent, natural-looking results that are tailored to your unique anatomy. Dermal fillers and other nonsurgical techniques can also be used to fill out the chin and minimize the appearance of lines, wrinkles or dimples. Depending on your needs, Dr. Lowenstein will recommend the best approach for achieving your cosmetic goals.
- Forehead LiftA brow lift (also known as a forehead lift) is a surgical procedure that reduces wrinkles and folds above the eyebrows by adjusting the underlying muscle and removing excess skin. Using either traditional or minimally invasive (endoscopic) methods, a more youthful appearance can be achieved.
- Acne Treatment
- FungusTheir downsides are that they may look and feel less natural than silicone gel implants. There are also concerns saline implants can become contaminated with bacteria and fungus, which some worry may result in systemic disease. This may have been an issue in the past, but novel techniques prevent the saline from coming into contact with contaminants.
- Skin CareWhile aging is inevitable, proper skin care and routine facials are critical for taking care of your skin so you can stay healthy, happy and glowing at every stage of life. Since each patient has a unique complexion, keeping your skin nourished and hydrated depends on highly individualized treatment and care.
- PsoriasisPatients who are prone to scarring or have any active skin conditions, such as open wounds, acne or psoriasis, will be assessed during the initial consultation to ensure it is safe to proceed. Your medical history and overall health will be examined, as well as any allergies, sensitivities or current medications.
