I work for Hale Centre Theatre in sandy and we use Milt's shoe repair all the time. He has done hundreds of shoe repairs for us and we have been very satisfied.
I was sad to read the bad reviews. He may not be the most personable person but he works hard and has been repairing, altering, and making shoes for over thirty years. He treated me well today and it was the first time I had met him. Others from the theatre have brought shoes in and picked shoes up and they have not had any complaints.
He is a very hard worker and has helped us out in a pinch even though he is very busy. So I would recommend him.

Horrible job. He didn't even stitch the shoes all the way around the sole. And the stitching on each shoe is different. Making it very un-even. He also asked for extra pay even though the job he did was bad. DON'T GO HERE!

I bought a brand new pair of Keen leather winter boots on the 4th knowing I would have to have the calves stretched because they had a 15.5" calf opening and mine are 16", but I bought them anyway because they were exactly what I needed and it's not a big deal to stretch leather. They still fit, just more snug than I liked. I read some negative reviews about Milt's, but I'm a pretty open person who likes to give people the benefit of the doubt, plus they were really close to my home. I brought them in on the 5th and told the man and woman what I needed. We talked about stretching the calves for about 5 minutes because I was asking if the small elastic in the back would be a problem (he assured me it wouldn't) and because the woman couldn't figure out how to spell it or describe what I needed on the paper or something. Then they said I could pick them up in 3 weeks and that I needed to prepay $40 (the cobbler in my old town charged $5 to stretch both calves in a pair of boots!). After swallowing hard, I told them I would pay when I picked them up.

After a week, I decided to call them to see if it really was going to take 3 weeks and was told that my boots were done and I could pick them up. I was excited, so I went over immediately. He showed me the boots and told me he had stretched them a lot. Only not at all in the calf. He stretched the ARCH of the foot. A LOT. I was sick about it. I politely asked why he stretched them there and not the calf like I had asked, hoping there was a good reason, and he told me that's what I asked him to do and that I hadn't mentioned the calf. I assured him that was incorrect and he started back-pedaling and told me to come back in 2 days and they would be done. He asked if I wanted to pay then and I told him I'd pay when he did what I asked.

Well, I went in today to get them and when I first got there he kept saying how he "worked double," trying to make me feel guilty about HIS mistake. I just nodded and proceeded to try on my boots. They felt the same and when I asked where he stretched it he said in the calf and he said "last time you couldn't even get them on." I told him that wasn't true and he said "well, your calves are just too big, you know that." Then he kept saying that they "fit perfect" and "are so comfortable" like he was trying to convince me.

I should have argued about the price, but I just wanted to be done with him, so I paid, took my boots and left, vowing to never go there again and to write a review, hoping to save anyone else the frustration.

My boots aren't entirely ruined, just too big in the foot and ankle area, and still a bit snug around top of the calf. I might be able to stretch them myself with some water and alcohol, though.

Wow! Terrible! Milt is an older man and as rude as they come. I have a pair of expensive Italian OTK boots that are just a little too tight at the thigh, I wanted about an inch of stretch, He wouldn't do it, He wanted to do 2 inches, implied I was stupid, and told me to go somewhere else. Take your business elsewhere!

Excellent Service

I have used Milt's Shoe Repair services for a few years now. I often wonder how well he understands my English and vice versa, but he knows his shoes! It usually takes about a week to get my shoes repaired, but I have been VERY pleased with the results. I have had numerous high heels and shoe straps on dress shoes/sandals replaced. He has resoled a pair of cowboy boots--better than new! He's replaced the heel caps and leather on the bottom of dance shoes many times! He is truly skilled at his art. I highly recommend this place. Be patient upon the return of your items, it's well worth the wait.

Great work, fair price

I was a little concerned when I looked at the reviews for this store, but living only one mile away decided to take a chance and have them re-sole my Havana Joe Oxfords. I am glad I did. Milt's did an excellent job and returned my beloved shoes back to their original look and feel. I found the owner to be professional and helpful. The female employee was friendly and quick to assist me as well. I highly recommend their work. The price was equivalent to the best prices I had found online, and the finished product exceeded my expectations. Take your shoe here folks.

Fabulous work as well as good costumer service all around

Milt's Shoe and alterations is always my first choice when I need a place to take my clothes/shoes to be repaired or fixed. I always leave 100 satisfied with my items. The owner is always working many hours to ensure that items dropped off are ready as his customers need them. I really admire his craftmanship and effort put into each and every item he mends and/or restores. He has purchased many expensive machinery to guarantee his customers that the job gets done right and professionally. As you can tell I have brought many of my things here over the years and I definitely plan to continue.

Rude! Condescending! Sexist! Won't do business here again!

When I dropped off my 4 pairs of pants and two shoes, the owner was very nice (mostly conversing with my husband) -which was very different from when I picked up my items. At home, I took a look at my shoes. Although I wasn't impressed, they were functional and not noticeable without inspection. The hemming was fine, but 2 of the 4 were still too long. I called up the shop and was told to return asap. The woman in the shop (his wife?) re-pinned the pants. While in the dressing room, I was surprised to hear how condescending he was to his other guests. Before I left, he confronted me. First asking/yelling, who hemmed the pants, I responded, "You did." He then tried to tell me that I wanted them longer. WRONG why would I pay for hemming for my pants to drag? And, if he didn't remember he hemmed my pants, how can he say I wanted them longer? Not very logical since I was there to get them hemmed. I felt bad for the woman she looked scared and embarrassed, and even apologized for the man.
