General Info
Located in San Marcos, Texas Preparatory School is a Texas Education Agency Exemplary School that has been serving students in grades K-6 since 2001. We are a tuition-free, public charter school, and enrollment is open to students residing in Hays, Caldwell, Guadalupe, and Comal counties. We currently have a student body population of 176 children. Unlike traditional public schools, we allow a maximum of 22 students per class, which enables teachers to give more individual attention to the students. Students in grades 1-6 have a homeroom teacher, but for each core class, students rotate to other classrooms for instruction. We believe that parent involvement is paramount, so we strive to ensure that faculty is readily available for communication regarding the success of their child. TPS also offers a unique all day model, which allows students to stay at the school from as early as 7 a.m. to as late as 6:30 p.m. These extended hours are especially beneficial for parents who work late, take classes, or commute from surrounding areas. One of our most unique features is that our charter holder is the Boys & Girls Clubs of South Central Texas, an extension of the Boys & Girls Clubs of America. We are only one of two Clubs in the United States that operates a charter school, and we have the benefit of integrating its programs into our educational plan. These unique features have resulted in notable academic achievement and statewide recognition. This past year, Children at Risk, a Houston-based non-profit, ranked TPS the best public elementary school in Hays County, the third best in Central Texas, and the 26th in the state!
