Located in San Luis Obispo, Calif., the Central Coast Regional Water Quality Control Board is operated by the State Water Resources Control Board, which was established in 1967. The Central Coast Regional Water Quality Control Board preserves, enhances and restores the quality of water resources and ensures proper allocation and efficient use. The board administers an irrigation and nutrient management program that implements pollution prevention strategies to address discharges from irrigated land on a regional and watershed-based scale. The Central Coast Regional Water Quality Control Board operates a division of financial assistance that administers the implementation of the state water board's financial assistance programs. It also administers loan and grant funding for the construction of municipal sewage and water recycling facilities, remediation for underground storage tank releases and watershed protection projects. The board operates an underground storage tank cleanup unit that provides technical and regulatory oversight for the investigation and cleanup of sites with leaks.
