Founded in 1821, Amherst College is one of the leading educational institutions that offer liberal arts courses in the United States. The college has an enrollment of more than 1,600 students. It occupies over 900 acres of space. Amherst College offers the Bachelor of Arts degree courses in nearly 30 fields of science, social studies and humanities. The college offers classes in psychology, philosophy, economics, music, geology, chemistry and biology. It also hosts sessions in several foreign languages, such as Russian, French, Spanish and German. Amherst College maintains a library that houses a selection of rare books, literary manuscripts, newspapers and periodicals. In addition, the college operates several museums, including Emily Dickinson Museum and Bassett Planetarium.
