General Info
Founded in 1947 and located on busy Van Ness Ave, Tommy's Joynt is as much a landmark as it is a restaurant. The one of a kind Hofbrau is focused around freshly hand carved meats, generous portions, and over 100 different beers from all around the world. The menu highlights classic 1950's American cuisine at it's best. Famous for their Buffalo stew, large Turkey legs, braised lamb shanks and massive meaty sandwiches. Not the most ideal place for vegetarians, but it does offer salad items such as: macaroni, coleslaw, mixed pickled beans, and mixed vegetable salads. Pair your hot meal with one of the many "throwback" cocktails, or their classic Irish coffee. A unique place that truly captures the spirit of San Francisco and all it has to offer.

Incredibly long wait, your hunger would have passed if you go here on a Friday or weekend night. Way too expensive for a very undistinguished menu. You're paying for its location--but you're within just a few blocks of some much better, *much* more authentic Mexican food that's literally half the price. The food and drinks aren't terrible, just ridiculously overpriced and nothing special.
would vote this place "Best Meat and Potatoes Joint" in SF. They have a vast selection of Meaty offerings to make any Midwesterner feel at home. The place is well known for being able to order a sandwich and a drink for under $10. There selection of beer is very impressive. It's very much a cafeteria meets bar environment.
I always enjoy going here on my lunch, and the line is often out the door, but their speedy chefs keep it moving and get you seated faster than you'd expect. I work in the Financial district and often will take the Geary bus down, or grab a ride with a Friend, if that is any measure of my meaty likeness of this classic staple that's been in business since 1947...
It's a hof brau with a bar. The portions are huge, the food is good and it's open late. It's hard to ask for more than that!
I love going here whenever im around geary.They have all the type of meats and salads.The food t is very good just watch what you eat you have to watch those calories!.Give it a try you will love it.
