Founded in 1987, Asian Perinatal Advocates is a nonprofit agency, providing family support services to the Asian and Pacific Islander community, for the prevention of child abuse and domestic violence. The community is sufficiently large, comprising of 35 percent of the population in San Francisco. Language barriers, cultural conflicts, ignorance of western medicine, healthy child care practices, and appropriate parenting skills, create problems and often prevent families from seeking and finding the resources necessary to overcome their difficulties. Asian Perinatal Advocates, consisting of professionals and experienced home visitors, provides services through education, community building and leadership development. It is located in San Francisco.
