Tanya T. Nguyen, PhD, is a licensed clinical psychologist who treats older adults with neurological and psychiatric disorders. Her expertise is in conducting neuropsychological evaluations to help determine causes of neurological or cognitive problems, identify an individuals cognitive strengths and weaknesses, and inform treatment decisions. Dr. Nguyen is the program director of the https://health.ucsd.edu/specialties/psych/senior/pages/default.aspxs intensive outpatient program and a neuropsychologist at its inpatient unit. She is also involved in training clinical psychology graduate and medical students at UC San Diego School of Medicine. An assistant professor in the Department of Psychiatry, her research examines accelerated cognitive and biological aging in severe mental illness. She is also interested in understanding the role of the microbiome and gut-brain axis in schizophrenia.Dr. Nguyen completed postdoctoral fellowship training in clinical mental health research and neuropsychology at VA San Diego Healthcare System. She completed her clinical internship at the VA Palo Alto Health Care System and earned her doctorate in clinical psychology, with an emphasis in neuropsychology, from the San Diego State University/University of California San Diego Joint Doctoral Program in Clinical Psychology. She is a member of the International Neuropsychological Society and the American Psychological Association.
