Robert Resnik, MD, is a board-certified perinatologist who specializes in caring for women with high-risk pregnancies. Perinatologists, also known as maternal-fetal medicine specialists, care for pregnant women who have an increased chance that they or their babies will have health concerns. Dr. Resniks expertise includes treating fetal growth restriction and placenta accreta.Dr. Resnik is a professor emeritus at UC San Diego School of Medicine. Previously, he served as dean of clinical affairs, associate dean of admissions and chairman of the Department of Reproductive Medicine.Dr. Resnik is widely published, having coauthored over 100 journal articles. He is the coeditor of the textbook Creasy and Resniks Maternal-Fetal Medicine: Principles and Practice, now in its seventh edition. Dr. Resniks peer-reviewed articles have appeared in Obstetrics & Gynecology, American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Journal of Ultrasound in Medicine, among others. During his career, Dr. Resnik served on the Residency Review Committee for Obstetrics and Gynecology and the Council for Residency Education in Obstetrics and Gynecology. He was vice chair of the Obstetrical Practice Committee for American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and served as president for the American Gynecological and Obstetrical Society, Perinatal Research Society and the American Gynecological Club. Dr. Resnik also served as an oral examiner for the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology for 25 years and as a consultant to the Neonatal Subspecialty Board for the American Board of Pediatrics. He completed his fellowship in perinatal medicine at the University of Colorado Medical Center, now University of Colorado Hospital. Dr. Resnik completed his residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Yale Yale-New Haven Hospital and earned his medical degree at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine. He is board-certified in obstetrics and gynecology and maternal and fetal medicine.Dr. Resnik is a fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology and a fellow ad eundem of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists.In 2004, Dr. Resnik received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine.He is consistently elected as a top physician in the annual survey for Best Doctors in America.Dr. Resnik and his wife, Lauren, have two children.
