Roland Lee, MD, is a board-certified neuroradiologist and diagnostic radiologist who sees individuals with issues involving the brain, spine, and head and neck, including those with back pain and neurological disease. His clinical focus is on using MRI to diagnose diseases and injuries of the brain, including stroke, cancer, multiple sclerosis (MS), degenerative disease, trauma and dementia. He has special expertise in using magnetoencephalography (MEG) to assess brain function (neuronal activity) in epilepsy patients seeking surgical treatment of their condition. He also uses MEG to diagnose concussions and assess brain networks related to post-trumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and other brain diseases. His research explores the uses of MEG in understanding traumatic brain injury and PTSD. Dr. Lee has received funding from both the NFL and Department of Defense to study brain injuries and disease, including PTSD and concussions.Prior to joining UC San Diego Health in 2004, Dr. Lee was a professor of radiology and director of the Center for Functional Brain Imaging at University of New Mexico School of Medicine. He was also director of neuroimaging at the New Mexico VA Health Care System.He completed a fellowship in neuroradiology at UCSF School of Medicine and a fellowship in MRI at Long Beach Memorial Medical Center. He completed a residency in diagnostic radiology at Harvard Medical School. He earned his medical degree at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA.
