Jason Handwerker, MD, is a board-certified neuroradiologist who specializes in diagnostic imaging of the brain, neck and spine. He uses imaging techniques such as computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to diagnose conditions that affect the central nervous system, including aging and degenerative diseases, seizure, cancer, stroke, and trauma. As an associate professor in the Department of Radiology, Dr. Handwerker instructs residents and fellows at UC San Diego School of Medicine. He has published numerous journal articles, and his work has appeared in The New England Journal of Medicine and Radiology, among others.Prior to joining UC San Diego Health, Dr. Handwerker cared for patients at UC Irvine Medical Center in Orange, Calif. He also served as an assistant professor in the Departments of Radiological Sciences and Otolaryngology - Head & Neck Surgery at UC Irvine School of Medicine.Dr. Handwerker completed a residency in diagnostic radiology and a fellowship in diagnostic neuroradiology at Harvard Medical School in Boston. He completed his residency at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and his fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital. Dr. Handwerker also earned his medical degree from Harvard Medical School.
