Gene Kallenberg, MD, is a board-certified family medicine doctor. He provides primary care for patients of all ages, including preventive care and treatment of acute and chronic diseases. With integrative medicine, Dr. Kallenberg brings complementary approaches to his patients overall care plan including mindfulness-based stress reduction, whole food/plant based nutrition approaches and body work approaches like yoga, massage, acupuncture and Tai-Chi.Personal StatementDr. Kallenberg says, I am interested in bringing together the practices of family medicine and mental health care, combining them into a more seamless, patient-friendly service that recognizes the fact that the mind is connected to the rest of the body and that problems in either area affect the other."One of many doctors in his family, Dr. Kallenberg developed his interest in medicine early from observing his father's approach to patient care in his general practice in Cincinnati. He has learned the importance of being sensitive to people's needs and educating them about their health care. He has found that getting to know his patients and establishing long-term relationships with them and their families provides one of the greatest rewards of being a physician. As a professor of family medicine and public health, Dr. Kallenberg is involved in training medical students, residents and fellows at UC San Diego School of Medicine. Dr. Kallenberg also led the effort to establish the UC San Diego Center for Integrative Medicine.Dr. Kallenberg completed his internship and fellowship training at UC Los Angeles School of Medicine. He earned his medical degree at University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. He is board-certified in family medicine and internal medicine.When not at work, Dr. Kallenberg enjoys exercising, reading and traveling.
