Brian Datnow graduated in medicine from the University of Witwaterstrand School of Medicine in 1970 and completed his internship in surgery (6 months) and medicine (6 months), at Johannesburg General Hospital in 1971. {line break}After coming to the United States in 1972, he completed a residency in anatomic and clinical pathology at the Peter Bent Brigham Hospital, Boston from 1972 to 1976. In conjunction with this he held a position as a clinical teaching fellow at Harvard Medical School from 1973 to 1976. During his residency training, he was appointed as chief resident in anatomic and clinical pathology. {line break}After residency training, Dr. Datnow was appointed associate pathologist at Norwood Hospital in Massachusetts where he worked from 1976 to 1977. From 1977 to 1985, he worked at Scripps Memorial Hospital where he was an associate pathologist. He joined Palmer Laboratory Medical Group as an associate pathologist from 1985 to 1989. {line break}From 1985 to 1998, he was the laboratory director at Harborview Medical Center, San Diego, in addition to his consulting practice in the community.{line break}From 1998 to 2000, Dr. Datnow was clinical associate professor (non-salaried) on the clinical staff at UC San Diego as a MCP contract surgical pathologist.{line break}In 2000, Dr. Datnow was appointed associate clinical professor in the Department of Pathology at UC San Diego, and then promoted to full professor in 2006. In July 2006, he was appointed director of the Pathology Residents Training Program.{line break}In 2011, Dr. Datnow was appointed as interim director of Anatomic Pathology, a position he currently holds.
