Benchley-Weinberger Elementary serves students in kindergarten through grade five. Its academic curriculum includes programs in language arts, mathematics, reading, science and social studies. The school has a parent-teacher association that conducts seminars on parenting topics and educational workshops, including math workshops for parents. Benchley-Weinberger Elementary has a library that offers various reading programs and stocks books, encyclopedias, catalogs and other reference resources. Its facilities include a playground, cafeteria, computer laboratory and parking lot. In addition, the school offers magnet programs that include enrichment activities, field trips and student participation in school-wide news broadcasts and newsletter publishing. Benchley-Weinberger Elementary is located in San Diego and is a part of the San Diego Unified School District, which serves over 135,000 students. The district's educational facilities include more than 100 elementary schools, over 20 middle schools, nearly 28 high schools, 35 charter schools and 15 alternative schools.
