Alton A. Hansen, Sr. opened the doors Swing Machinery and Equipment Company for business on February 12, 1947 after serving as an officer in WWII. The first Swing location was in the Transit Tower in a small office space with limited inventory. Ed Friedrich Company, H.B. Zachary Company, Acme Iron Works, Kelly Air force Base and what would become City Public Service were some of the first to do business with Al in his new endeavor.The first lines represented were cutting tools, the likes of Chicago-Latrobe Twist Drill, Threadwell Tap, Greenfield, and machine tools with now almost forgotten names as Nebel Lathe Co., American Machine Tool Works, and Kearney & Trecker Milwaukee Machine Tools. Swing Machinery was also the early distributor of the original Millers Falls Tool Company product line of hand tools and saw blades.In 1953 Swing Machinery moved to the stockyards area 110 Pendleton Ave. that would be home for the next 15 years. This location afforded room for more inventory and easy access to the local industries and the expansion of lines such as air tools, abrasives, and metal finishing equipment.1965 brought us to our present location at 106 W. Rhapsody, at that time the Boondocks but now center city for the area.Alton A. Hansen, Jr. joined his father and Swing in high school, working summers and after school thru college and now serves as president of the company. Al s sister Virginia and her husband Ed Robins joined the company in the mid 1980 s and are integral members of the company.Today Swing Machinery is celebrating 57 years of Service to South Texas and Mexico with the best lines of tools and equipment to the trade specializing in personalized service to clients which require engineered applications and particular stocking programs.In the Metalworking Industry, Aerospace Industry, fabrication and assembly, Swing offers access to quality lines at scheduled pricing and inventory.
