Smart Start is one of the programs operated by the Family Service Association, which is a private, nonprofit, nonsectarian human services agency. Located in San Antonio, it is nationally accredited by the Council on Accreditation of Services for Families and Children. The organization provides counseling services for various issues, including child sexual abuse, domestic violence, depression and incest. It offers Substance Abuse Treatment Access for Youth, a program that includes intensive home-based counseling and case management services to children and their families. Family Service Association additionally provides in-home personal care services that include assistance with meal planning and preparation, light housekeeping, bathing, dressing, grooming, washing and combing hair. In addition, the organization provides parental education that helps parents learn effective approaches to nurturing and disciplining children and preventing child abuse.
