The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development is a housing agency that increases homeownership and creates affordable housing opportunities for low-income Americans. The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development supports Community Development Block Grant (CDBG), which is a flexible program that provides communities with resources to address a range of unique community development needs. The department maintains an office of healthy homes and lead hazard control that eliminates lead-based paint hazards in America's privately owned and low-income housing facilities. In addition, it operates an office of multifamily housing programs that is responsible for the overall management, development, direction and administration of housing programs. The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development additionally operates the Office of Native American Programs and the Office of Public and Indian Housing.
