- CryotherapyA two-year medical and surgical vitreoretinal fellowship in conjunction with the Retina Service at Cook County/Stroger Hospital and Retina Associates. This is a busy, comprehensive vitreoretinal experience with a balance between academics and private practice. At the county hospital, the fellow operates as primary surgeon for 5-7 primary cases per week supervised by retina staff. Office based procedures such as cryotherapy/pneumatic retinopexy, injections and paracentesis, air-fluid exchange, and all types of lasers are experienced. Clinical research opportunities are available and a clinical research project is encouraged.
- Primary CareYour insurance plan may require you to obtain a referral from your primary care physician (PCP) in order for your visit to be covered. Please call our office at 630-571-1501 with your insurance information ready and we will be happy to assist you in determining if you are required to obtain one.
- GlaucomaAs the media of the eye are usually transparent, the retina and associated structures may be directly visualized and photographed using specialized retinal cameras. Many retinal conditions such as diabetic retinopathy and macular degeneration may be documented using photography. Additionally, photography is useful for evaluating the progression of optic nerve damage in glaucoma.
- OphthalmologyIn the private practice setting, the fellow participates in 6-10 surgical cases per week and in many office-based procedures. The fellow will gain proficiency in the treatment of a wide range of posterior segment disorders. There is also direct interaction/teaching with junior and senior Ophthalmology residents for various retina-related issues.
- Macular DegenerationA Phase III study to evaluate the safety and efficacy of intravitreal (IVT) injections of conbercept versus aflibercept in subjects with neovascular (wet) age-related macular degeneration (wAMD).
- CataractsUltrasonography or echography is a diagnostic imaging procedure that utilizes ultrasonic sound to create images of the interior of the eye. The technique is invaluable when the optical media of the eye is opaque or too dense to enable direct visualization of the back of the eye such as in severe cataract, hemorrhaging, and infection. Ultrasound may guide surgical planning for retinal detachment and trauma. Ultrasound is also used to diagnose and study intraocular tumors and is an essential approach for planning radiation therapy and surgical approaches for cancer. Ultrasound is a painless procedure involving the application of a gentle probe to the eyelids combined with a bland gel. There is no risk associated with the procedure.
- Cataract SurgeryThe physicians of Retina Associates perform a wide array of surgical procedures including scleral buckling, vitrectomy, membrane peeling, laser, cryotherapy, and radioactive source placement. These techniques are employed in treating retinal detachment, diabetic retinopathy, macular pucker, complications of cataract surgery, severe infection, and cancer.
