General Info
Mayfield Lisa JD Family Mediator has been a licensed attorney since 1986, Lisa practices domestic relations mediation exclusively. Since 1998 when Lisa established her practice, she has mediated many hundreds of cases. In addition to mediating for parties who engage her directly, Lisa mediates for the Marion and Polk County circuit courts, the Oregon Department of Human Services, and the Oregon Child Support Program. She is a member of and subscribes to the standards of the Oregon Mediation Association. She is a member of the Oregon State Bar, Association of Family and Conciliation Courts, Oregon Mediation Association, Marion County Bar Association, & Marion County Circuit Court Family Law Advisory Committee. She attended law school at Lewis and Clark's Northwestern School of Law. About mediation: Mediation of custody and parenting time issues has long been required by, paid for, and overseen by Oregon courts. Mediation is available, sometimes at court expense, for property and financial matters. Private divorce mediation, paid for by the parties, has been around even longer, and is an appealing alternative to hiring two divorce attorneys to handle a divorce from start to finish. Divorce accomplished through mediation with a law-trained mediator usually costs less and takes less time than adversarial divorce. The parties remain in control of their divorce process. A mediator's neutrality as to the outcome is the cornerstone of his or her practice and ethical obligations. Family mediators are facilitators trained to provide a structured process for resolving family issues. The mediator helps disputing parties generate a settlement that both can live with and find workable. The parties remain in control of their divorce process. Lisa maintains bar licensing but her practice is limited exclusively to mediation. Because she is licensed, she can prepare and file legal documents for parties. Mediating parties are encouraged to consult with an attorney before signing legally binding documents. Lisa can provide referrals to excellent local family law attorneys who are supportive of mediation and will consult and/or review documents.
