August 4, 2010 -- This forenoon at 10 AM I was hauling abandoned tenant furniture from my apartments in Northfield to Rice County Landfill. A strap broke and portions flew off. Two cars stopped and men helped me reload items. A youthful State Patrol officer came up and wanted to ticket me for inadequate load binding. He thought of himself and credit for issuing another citation. Then a second MN highway patrolman came along. This gentleman of maybe 60 spoke to me, noting that two straps were still in place and said "I will follow you to the landfill turn-off, it's only about three more miles, and then you'll be on your own." He did this!!! All worked out fine! No monetary 'fine.' I could scarcely believe it. For the first time in my 75 years, a policeman helped me instead of punishing me. He thought of the "other", not himself and his glory. I wish I had noted or asked for him name. Can someone trace his duty route and let me write him a personal letter of thanks? LaVern Rippley
